I’ll be returning to San Diego and Los Angeles in March, for a handful of shows at various venues. These include a couple nights at Northern Spirits (San Marcos), a return to La Costa Glen for an afternoon concert, a Bobby Hutcherson Tribute at 98 Bottles, and a two-vibes show with the great L.A. vibist Nick Mancini. Details will be posted soon, for all you So Cal folks. While I’m out West, I also will be cruising out to the Palm Desert for a couple days, to enjoy the annual BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament at Indian Wells, an ATP/WTA event that I’ve been attending for years, and features all the top male and female players in the world. I made it to my first U.S. Open last summer… a real thrill… but Indian Wells is also a great hang for tennis junkies like myself.
I am currently putting together a new project, (possibly called) Bar 38, a NYC-based group that will focus on rock and pop repertoire, arranged in a modern jazz style, with vibes and MalletKAT as the lead instrument. So far, I’ve been jamming with various NYC musicians, checking out a bunch of players and figuring out what instrumentation I’d like to use. The goal will be to make a record this spring, and start doing local gigs by the summer. Also, I’m planning a quartet recording, as sort of a follow-up to Connections Volume One and Two, which I recorded and released while still living in San Diego a couple years ago. I plan to use vibes/guitar/bass/drums as the instrumentation, with perhaps a guest or two joining in (sax, trumpet?). Also, I’ve started a new band with my good friends (guitarist) Aaron Bleiweiss and (saxophonist) Alex Vargas, along with extraordinary New York vocalist Nicole Lund. No name yet, but we’re jamming, and it’s going to be hot! It’s been a while since I’ve been out playing regularly or making a studio record, so I am excited to get these new entities rolling! Stay tuned for updates…
Hi and welcome to my new artist site! It’s been a year since I relocated to New York City, and I’m just now starting to feel settled and ready to make some things happen. New York is truly an amazing place, with energy unlike any city I’ve ever spent time in. The number of world-class musicians here, in the jazz scene alone, is staggering, humbling and also inspiring. I’ve been out and about checking out as many shows as possible, connecting with musicians, and getting a “lay of the land.” It’s been great getting assimilated, and now I’m really “jonesing” to do as much playing as possible! I will be posting upcoming event info, music, videos, pics, blog entries, and links to other materials of interest. Also, an online “store” will be up and running soon, with CD’s, books, and other merchandise. I look forward to connecting with you, thanks for checking it out!
