Anthony first began playing vibes as a teenager in the Bay Area. His father Len, also a vibist, bought a set so that he and his oldest son would be able play duets on piano and vibes, jumping back and forth between the two instruments.
Anthony’s hands-down favorite vibes player of all time is Bobby Hutcherson, a fellow bay Area resident who Anthony was lucky to hear play live on many occasions.
While the majority of Anthony’s professional work over the years has been piano and keyboard-related, he has long considered vibes his more “natural instrument.”
Looking ahead, Anthony plans to create several new recordings as a leader or co-leader of groups featuring him on vibraphone, and hopes to create more awareness in the jazz and creative music scene of his talents on what he describes as “a beautiful, but unfortunately under-appreciated, obscure instrument.”
